Over
one hundred years old, this leather bound album is in fairly good
condition. Many of the pages inside
however, are beginning to fade and tear.
In an effort to keep this document for future generations, it has been
scanned and archived digitally. If you
would like to retain a copy of this album on CD, check out the download section.
History: For a long
time, the George family resided in New England.
Around the time of the revolution, half of the family decided to remain
loyal to Britain and moved North to settle in Quebec, Canada. The other half of the family remained in the
United States and continued to live in the New England area.
Belle
George was one of many George’s that moved to Canada. However, in an effort to maintain close ties
with families living in New England, Belle would frequently visit her former
home. On these visits, she would bring
her Floral Album, in which her hosts would contribute quotes, poetry, original
writings and artwork to the book. Other
entries were made by Canadian residents, which were kept in the same tone and
theme as the American entries.
This
album is interesting because it features names that are very recognizable. Wyatt, for example, is a family that the
Georges are related to today. It is
also interesting to see where some of our ancestors came from, knowing that
although we have since spread out all over Canada and the United States, some
of us still remain in New England.
